Goodman GPG13 Central Air Conditioner Overview

The Goodman GPG13 is a discontinued packaged gas/electric unit which operated as an electricity-powered air conditioner and a gas-fueled furnace. The GPG13 had an efficiency of 80% AFUE and 13 SEER. The unit was equipped with a corrosion-resistant, aluminized steel tubular heat exchanger and a coil made of refrigeration-grade copper tubing and aluminum fins to maximize the surface area. The cabinet was constructed of heavy-gauge galvanized steel with a powder paint finish to protect the unit and resist corrosion, and the blower compartment was insulated for sound reduction. The GPG13 used the environmentally-friendly R-410A refrigerant.

"Piece of crap, go somewhere else"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

I have had nothing but problems with the installation with unit and keeping it running. Bought it new a little over two years ago and I highly regret ever getting this. So if you are thinking of buying a new unit go somewhere else, not Goodman. The only thing good in this is the name of the unit.

I purchased this piece of junk less than two years ago, and it's been nothing but trouble. Now the compressor needs replacing. The part is still under warranty, but you still have to pay for labor and Freon. I've had to have it serviced at least 5 times and it never ends.

"Don't buy one!"

After 5 years, the run capacitor and compressor went bad. The compressor started to go bad after 4 years but I couldn't replace it without being covered. So I went through a year of it not running efficiently and therefore my utilities were high. I am a single parent and with this not being more reliable it crippled me financially. I would not recommend this.

"Excellent"

I bought a Goodman complete unit about 4 years ago. It's an excellent machine and I would recommend it again to anyone. The price was right and the service was also. I truly think that some of the people here who are not happy ended up with some bogus repairs that may have not been needed. I have dealt with service people from different areas, not Goodman but they worked on many. I have found you cannot trust a lot of techs as they try hard to make a mountain out of a molehill I see Goodman installed in many places. The only complaints I hear are from contractors who sell different units outside of Goodman.

"New unit no air continues"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

My Goodman unit was installed Sept 2009. We used the ac briefly until switching to heat with no problems. June 2010 no ac called installer r22 added. July 2011 no ac r22 added. July 2012 no ac called Goodman direct no help other than the installer or supplier would need to them to trouble shoot the unit. Trouble shoot? This unit is new! Installer & supplier came out could not find any leaks r22 added. July 2013 no ac – installer came out – says they found leaks and repaired r22 added. July 2014 no ac called Goodman Air direct again told they could not assist me direct to have installer / supplier contact them – they are due @ home this Friday and no one is leaving without a resolution. Can anyone say Lemon!

Other GPG13 Reviews

Among the few comments regarding the GPG13 on HVAC forums, a consumer on diyforums.net wanted to reduce his unit’s fan speed and was told to switch the blower motor terminals around. A comparison on gardenweb.com between the GPG13 and a comparable Payne unit was almost evenly divided, with many contributors stating the importance of checking the warranty before purchase.

GPG13 Warranty

Online product registration is required within 60 days of installation for maximum warranty coverage. The Goodman GPG13 is covered by a 20-year limited heat exchanger warranty and a 10-year limited parts warranty. The warranty does not cover labor costs.
