Goodman GSX13 Central Air Conditioner Overview

Goodman markets the GSX13 air conditioner as an efficient and reliable product. This three-phase 13 SEER split-system series has models ranging in capacity from 1.5 to 5 tons and producing anywhere from 18,000 to 60,000 BTU/H.

The Smartcoil technology used to enhance the GSX13’s heat transfer capability incorporates refrigeration grade, rifled, 5 mm copper tubing and aluminum fins that reportedly provide a larger-than-average surface area. The coil is protected by a steel louvered guard. The GSX13 has sound-reducing features such as a quiet condenser fan system and a louvered sound control top to provide reduced operating noise.

Goodman produces the GSX13 with a louvered cabinet made with heavy-gauge galvanized steel. The cabinet has a side panel that allows access to the controls and provides enough space for accessories. The liquid and suction line service valves are made of brass, and the GSX13 features R-410A chlorine-free refrigerant.

"Noisy, Failed, Runs NonStop Above 95😠"

The installer, repairer, same company, says it's the correct size unit. Home is certified Energy Star Performance by Austin Energy. When outside temperature 95 or warmer the inside temperature will not cool below 75 even though the a/c runs constantly and noisily.

"After 1 summer of use, compressor failed"

I am an hvac contractor. Goodman has put out a crappy series of ac units. The unit failed 16 months after installation. (Our ac units get a winter break around here). Wholesaler says everyone is bringing them back because of bad compressors. They will give you a better compressor and no labor money. Basically they are screwing over consumers. The manufacturer put out a product and knowingly so. The cherry on top is, they don't care. Avoid this product and manufacturer!!!!!!

When my house burned down in 2011, I replaced it with the home on the same lot. I speced a Trane, but while I wasn't looking I got this gsx13 installed. I paid for a Trane but this is what I got. It has been serviced at least once a year because it just does not hold a charge. Today, a technician from a very trusted company told me that he would re-charge it but it is going to leak out in 3 weeks or so. The owner of Doyle Mechanical was here just 3 weeks ago and put $200+ of refrigerant. Last night it was 87 degrees in here. They are telling me that I need to replace the entire evaporator (outside unit) as this one has too many leaks and is likely to never hold a charge. The evaporator coil is $1500, a set of both coils is $2900. I was told that the evaporator unit is about $5000. I guess I will buy my Trane cooler a piece at a time as I am not going to fuck around with what is clearly inferior than what I paid for.

"3 times not a charm"

I have only owned this home for six years and I live in NY, which means the air conditioning is only used about 4 months a year, this is the second compressor replacement in 2 years. This is the third time replacing the compressor, we had an 80 degree day turned it on and again it doesn't work. The labor cost to fix these is astronomical. Do yourself a favor and buy a different unit. My parents have had the same unit for 30 years with no issues. I will be contacting an attorney for a faulty product lawsuit

"Compelled to write this"

Doug Lombardo, contractor Grayslake, IL "A review I was compelled to write" I am a Goodman/Amana dealer in Illinois and am shocked by the poor reviews written here. Goodman/Amana are top performers in the industry! If you cipher through all the hype and angst, you can determine that each and every poor review is written by a consumer that was connected with a contractor that lacked in installation skills, had no communication skills, or a contractor that should not be installing furnaces or air conditioning units, period! Also, why people cannot understand that the manufacturer's warranty and the dealer's warranty are two distinctly different things is beyond me. There is where the poor communication comes in! The ten year warranty should be registered by the consumer, the contractor should explain all of that. And no where does it say that installation costs for a defective part are paid for by Goodman/Amana, ever. Read your warranty! Heating and cooling units do not operate outside of certain operating temperatures which are controlled by not only the equipment, but the duct system. And most duct systems are inadequate. So before you criticize that manufacturer that spends millions of dollars researching, developing, and testing these units, do yourselves a favor and get in touch with a real heating and cooling contractor and listen to what he says. You may not like what he has to say (which is the case most often) when you get an honest one and he tells you that you have a deficient air distribution system. But it is because of that why some new systems do not work well. And for heaven's sake, when you are writing these reviews, check your spelling and forget the name calling and cool phrases like "This furnace sucks". All that does is shows ignorance on the part of the writer. Amana and Goodman are great furnaces and an excellent value! My company has been in business for 43 years, we enjoy good standing in the community, and look forward to many more successful years as a Goodman/Amana dealer.

Other GSX13 Reviews

When a homeowner asks the experts on doityourself.com to comment on the quality of the GSX13 being installed into his new home, the contractors are split. Several say that this unit offers reliable performance, so long as it is properly installed. Others, however, point out that it is a budget unit and homeowners will get the minimal efficiency for which they’re paying. On a different thread, several contractors agree that this unit does have the quiet performance that the manufacturer promises.

GSX13 Warranty

The GSX13 come with a 10-year parts limited warranty, although homeowner are required to register the unit within 60 days of installation in order for this warranty to apply. Consumers should discuss additional coverage options with their Goodman dealer.
