Lennox Signature Central Air Conditioner Overview

The Lennox Signature is the company’s top series of air conditioners and is comprised of three units – the XC17, XC21 and XC25. The XC17 has an efficiency rating of up to 18 SEER, while the XC21 and XC25 have efficiency ratings of up to 21.2 SEER and 26 SEER. The Signature has been named one of the Most Efficient Energy Star qualified products of 2014. A SunSource solar-ready option allows the addition of solar modules to create a solar powered system to reduce energy consumption and costs. The XC17 features a single-stage compressor and the XC21 a two-stage compressor, while the XC25 features variable-speed cooling. SilentComfort technology and a precision molded compressor sound cover provide low sound levels, and the heavy-gauge stainless steel cabinet has a baked-on powder finish to prevent rust and corrosion. The Signature uses R-410A refrigerant.

"6 years of never ending cost and headaches"

I purchased my Lennox 3.5 ton air conditioner heating system in 2012. The first summer I had to put more coolant in it. The next summer I had to pay to locate the leak , pay the labor , pay for coolant and they replaced the defective coil. They paid $600 and I paid about $1,700 for coolant labor and leak detection. Then a few years later I had to add more coolant. Then this year I did the whole leak detection , coolant replacement and labor to find the replacement coil was also defective. Lennox only covers the part and nothing else. I finally replaced the coil w a Trane and hope that fixes it. My total cost in the last 6 years is $6,700. This thing was defective out of the box, Lennox warranty covers only the part, and you should never buy a Lennox under any circumstances.

"High Price! Low Dependability!"

Many breakdowns starting at 3 years. Circuit board replacement multiple times ($230 per); wiring harness shorted (factory defect. No charge); evaporator coil leaking just out of 3 year warranty ($3,300 to replace by sears); fan/run capacitor replaced several times ($125 per). Initial Cost over $7,000 and all duct work, wiring, electrical boxes, pressure lines, and sump pump were already in place. Lennox? Never again!

"Lennox is GARBAGE"

This is a 7 year old unit that was plenty big enough to handle the house. Every time they walk in it costs me a ton more money. Now the 7 year old compressor is gone and $1300 to replace it. They wanted to replace a valve on the air handler at $529 and I told them it was nonsense. After the last technician came he said it was not the valve but the compressor. I have their waste less Maintenance Plus program. 10 years on parts and 10 years on compressor. The charge of $1100 is only the labor same as the valve they wanted to replace. So don't buy Lennox and if you do you want a maintenance contract that covers parts and labor so they can't rip you off. I have a contract with Service Experts and will not renew again. I get a different technician every time and they don't seem very technical to me. The last unit at this house went for 22 years! Don't buy Lennox. It is Garbage

"Dave Lennox Signature Collection"

My understanding was this was the top of the Lennox line with only one model above it. Expensive. Yes, it is efficient, quiet and attractive. After owning it for only 1 1/2 years { I live in the midwest, so it only is in use when the temperature is above around 80 degrees: 6 months or less per year.} the fan goes out on the compressor on a 100 degree day. I was shocked to have a malfunction with this level of use. Couple this with the fact that the service tech buffoon replaced the new fan motor on my only {other} functioning unit and not the faulty one only added to the problem. This coupled with a $188 service charge! The motor was covered, not labor!! I know the service charge is not the fault of the manufacturer but it does reflect on the whole customer service/quality control issue, especially when repairs are flubbed up. High end products should have high end dealers and service. Except for this episode the units have worked as expected but they are still quite new. I would not expect this type of failure this early in a unit costing this much. For those shopping these, also look at Trane products and cross shop reliability and warranty service. Negotiate the service warranty!
