We had Payne PA13NR048-J unit installed less than 2 years ago. In such a short time the unit failed because the coil developed a leak and the Freon leaked out. This unit uses the older kind of Freon which costs $900 to refill. The company only warrants the coil, so they will replace it but there is no recourse for Freon cost which is almost half as much as the price to install a new system. I talked and appealed to the company customer service but they don't care. They have a script, "We only warrant the parts, blah, blah, blah". If the coil wasn't bad, it wouldn't have leaked the Freon out. Apparently, this is a problem with all newer models where they made the coil copper thinner to improve efficiency. In all this, the customer is screwed again. What I really wish is that there were a consumer protection entity to hold the corporations accountable for the quality of the products they release on to the public.
