Trane XB10 Central Air Conditioner Overview

The Trane XB10 is a discontinued, split-system air conditioner offering up to 10 SEER. Also known by its model number 2TTB0, this air conditioner model uses R-22 refrigerant and in 2002 was manufactured in eight models ranging from 2 ½ to 5 ton units.

Standing at 26 inches tall and 29 inches deep, the XB10 is promoted by the manufacturer for its durable, long-lasting construction. Trane Central Air Conditioner Reviews

"dependable"

Our unit was installed end 2003 and is running nearly all year long here in Louisiana. This is the first time that we have trouble and we will replace the whole unit, but only because of the Freon replacement that would be nearly half the price of a new unit together with the leaks that would have to be fixed.

"Still running strong"

Our home was completed in February 2004. A Trane XB10 was installed. This is the 13th summer of use and the only thing I have had to replace has been a start capacitor and a run capacitor about 4 years ago. And being in Oklahoma there are always a few weeks of triple digit temperatures. This unit has delivered.

"The system is trash"

The entire system was replaced about 2 years ago. It never worked longer than 8 months without a breakdown. Now the tray started leaking and the service people said Trane tried to save money by using plastic instead of metal. After eight months the coil failed and was replaced under warranty. I never had any problems with the old A/C. But it wasn't a Trane. I am loosing my patience with this unit. When it gets hot the system fails.

"Never a Train Again"

This unit Trane 2TTB0048A1 was only 8 years old. Was serviced 3 times. It was loud. I think a 4 ton unit compressor should have lasted longer, switching to a Heil. Hope it lasts longer.

"How to stop a Trane, install it."

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

Due to manufacturing problems, two copper pipes where left touching each other. One pipe rubbed the other creating a hole and empting the system, $350. I called Trane and was told that due to the age the warrente had expired and the installer should have cought the problem so they could do nothing. On top of that the orifice that injects the freon into the unit was to small for the unit. I would never purchase a Trane again.

Other XB10 Reviews

Reviews around the web indicate that the XB10 was Trane’s low-tier product line. Contractors on gardenweb.com recommend the unit sparingly, and suggest buying a new cooling unit over completing a costly repair for an old XB10.

In addition, Trane’s comment page on the consumer forum measureup.com reflects several consumer issues with the company and its cooling units. Frequent system breakdowns, costly labor and parts, a lack of warranty coverage, and poor customer service are among the complaints.

Troubleshooting issues specific to the XB10 include failing components, such as a rusted evaporator coil and broken circuit boards, and inconsistent cooling performance from the unit.
