"Trane is not worth the price"

Three-year-old unit and the inside coil is already bad. How the fuck does labor to replace it under warranty cost $1700? What a rip off. I paid top dollar and got the equivalent of a Chinese piece of crap. Never again.

"Very bad coils"

The 4 ton XR13 condensing unit with the air handler was installed in November 2006 and has had the AHU coil replaced twice due to leaks. That's three coils in the span of ten years folks! While at it, we have spent what seems to be an inordinate amount in service calls. Not one service company, including Trane, could provide a logical answer to this issue with the coils. The unit cooled well when operational but the air handler was very noisy. The replacement coil is expensive and the R22 is obsolete so it's time for a new AC. Will try our luck with something other than a Trane.

"Happy with Trane"

I had a Carrier central air conditioner for 23 years. In preparation for buying a new air conditioner, I read reliability surveys in Consumer Reports. That enabled me to narrow my search to five brands. I purchased a Trane xr13 2.5 ton central air conditioner 7 years ago. My electric costs dropped in half for the five months I use it in Pennsylvania. The motors are very quiet and noise levels are much lower. The Trane unit keeps my 2,498 square foot house cool. I have not performed any regular maintenance on it yet and am very happy. You get what you pay for and I would recommend this product Update: 2018-02-22 In August 2009, my 2.5 ton Carrier died after 23 years of trouble free service. That same month I replaced it with a 2.5 ton Trane xr13 unit. The new unit is 6 or 7 seer higher. After 8 years of use and 1 annual ac check my Trane is also a trouble free performer. It is much quieter than my old unit and my electric bills have been cut in half. Consumer Reports ranks it as the third most reliable ac brand I would have to agree.

"Fine, as long as it works"

I guess I'm glad that I'm not alone with coil leakage issues. I'm looking at $1350 (including refrigerant) on a coil that's less than 5 years old. I agree with at least one other review; what good is a warranty when looking at this much to do a warranty repair? I'm going to call Trane and ask them to cover it. Yeah, I know I don't have a chance of getting anything from them, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. If Trane doesn't at least help out, I may opt to spend a few hundred bucks more and get a new A/C unit. Since I have to spend major bucks, I might as well spend it as smartly as I can. I definitely will not get another Trane.
