Corporate History

The Viessmann company was founded in Germany in 1917, manufacturing steel boilers, and has been family-owned for several generations. Viessmann opened their first foreign factory in 1972 in France, followd by one in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada in 1978. Later, the North American headquarters moved to Warwick, RI. They introduced their first condensing boiler in 1992. In recent years the company has won several German awards, including "Excellent Product Design – Building and Energy".

Product Lines

Viessmann produces two brands of oil-fired boilers: the Vitorond 100 and the Vitola 200. Both boilers are Energy Star qualified and offer a biferral heat exchanger, low-emission combustion burner, and fluctuating water temperatures that provide an even distribution of heat.

There are a total of six models of condensing gas boilers – four wall-mounted and three floor standing. The wall-mounted units all feature a modulating stainless steel cylinder burner, and one model, the Vitodens 100-W, features an optional kit to convert it to a combi boiler. All of Viessmann's gas boilers are Energy Star qualified.

Veissmann also has a line of solar systems designed for domestic hot water and supplementary space heating.

Warranty

Viessmann's condensing gas boilers are covered by a limited lifetime warranty on the pressure vessel, pro-rated after the 10th year, and a 2-year parts warranty. The warranty on oil-fired boilers is 20 years on the cast iron sections, pro-rated after the 10th year, and 2 years on parts.

Solar systems are covered by a 10-year warranty on the panel or vacuum tube solar collector and a 2-year parts warranty.

"Expensive piece of crap – Run!"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

I bought this on the advice of my contractor who only uses Viessmann boilers. I did some homework and thought I was getting the best from a high quality company. What I got was no heat, no service, and expensive repair bills! My contractor did the best he could but Viessmann in all of its wisdom, fired the local reps who are the only people that know how to fix and program these things! Spent $12,000 on a heating system only to spend another $2,000 to fix it and keep it going. They say it works on propane, but they are full of crap! It half ass works! For the record the head of Viessmann, Michael something, has no clue how to run a company and service customers. Do not install a Viessmann. Put in anything but! You won't save any money with all your service bills you're going to have.

The heat is fine but this was installed in December 2016–It still wakes me at night because of the noise!! Thought I would get use to it!! When I walk out to get my mail, I can hear it running outside of the house as well!! If I had known this was so loud I would not have bought this, but after $9900 spent on it and installation I shall have to live with it. Would love to know if there is anyway to lessen the noise.

"Problems"

I must say, reading through most of these reviews, it seems in general with maybe an exception that you have inexperienced installers or homeowners here. I have 3 Viessmann boilers installed at my properties as well as a number at various customers. While pricey, yes, I have never had any issues. I know firsthand what happens out in the field as a few of the posters have mentioned. Improper application, improper set up after install, people messing with the secondary parameters, and not checking the parameters to be sure they match the application are just some of the things that lead to the boiler bashing that goes on. Advice: get your installer, if he says he's done plenty, get the customer's number and check it. When a problem does occur, usually the rep that sells them has the control experience needed to walk you through. In general they are great boilers, just about about as close to a lifetime install as you can get with proper maintenance and installation. In my own experience 9 out of 10 issues fall on the install and set up.

"Save money and keep warm with Viessmann's boiler"

I love our new boiler and am so glad I was talked into getting this system. My wife knew little about boilers, but did some homework and then we made the purchase. It's been a bit chilly here this fall, but our house has stayed warm and toasty while we have saved a few bucks with our new investment. Our old system used to take forever to warm up the house, but this one works so fast! We had been debating for a few years on whether to replace our old system, and finally bit the bullet and did it this summer. We have yet to find and hopefully won't find a reason not to love our decision and are looking forward to many years of enjoyment with it at our dream home. My sister-in-law is shopping for a new boiler and I know just what to recommend to her and her family now.
