Weil-McLain Boiler Reviews

"Poor quality boiler"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

We had our boiler installed in December 2008. It is maintained annually by our oil company. The boiler started leaking water 2 nights ago. Our oil company says the block needs to be replaced. While the part is covered, labor is not and it is going to cost us $1,100 to replace. Very poor quality and workmanship on the part of Weil-McLain. Just over 7 years and the boiler goes. Very sad!

"No contact number for company"

Just bought a WTGO oil burner, the reason being that this unit has a pre- and post-fire air purge, plus it has a wide front cast iron hinged door for easy access to the burner. After it was installed, I noticed that the return pipe was close to the unit and that the door won't open wide enough to service the tip. I called the contractor to mention this to him and his reply was "we pull the tip out from the top of the burner (they do this on all Weil McLain boilers). With all that stuff sitting on top of a burner it is hard to believe this story opposed to opening a door with one bolt. I tried to contact the company on this question because it looks like removing the burner you have to make sure the seals are tight and I don't think it will do damage to a brand new boiler and all the website says is contact your contractor. They take your money and boot you. You would think they'd care about their products, especially if it's a safety issue. What a rag company to do this. Leave you at the mercy of the installer. PS – I told them I would like to have the pipe moved by using 2 top 2 bottom 45 degree joints, but no. WTH, $6000 for a 40×30 rancher home and can't do it right.

"Weil-Mclain, Excellent quality for a reasonable price"

I have owned this boiler for 2 years now. It is very efficient, and I have seen a sizable drop in my oil bill because of this boiler. It was expensive to upgrade from my old boiler, but I am confident that I will recoup my costs within a few years. It is very reliable, and I haven't had a problem with it. It's also very easy to adjust the water temperature maximums and minimums for the house. The only flaw it has is that it can be kind of noisy. However, in most homes this will not be noticeable. I have never had to repair the boiler. I would absolutely buy a Weil-McLain again, and have recommended this brand to family and friends. While it can be a bit more expensive than other brands, I believe the efficiency and quality build make up for this purchase premium. Living in the Northeast a boiler is an essential piece of your home. It's not something you want to go "cheap" on. Spend a few extra dollars and sleep easy knowing your boiler is top notch.

"Happy with my Weil McLain boiler"

Loved this boiler. I had to replace an old one and was reviewing this product. Turned out a good investment. Heats up water pretty quickly and is handy when multiple people need to shower back to back. It's quiet and convenient to clean as well. Efficient and reliable is all I can say. Don't see any problems.

"Seals leak"

1.0 rating

I replaced my Weil Mclain 468 boiler with the WTGO-3 10 years ago. The reason was the the seals were leaking between the sections. A few months ago, I noticed the same thing happening to the WTGO-3. I contacted Weil-Mclain and they told me it is covered at 100% for years 0-10 and then a sliding scale after that up to 20. Great warranty, but terrible design since this happened twice to me. The service guy told me that seal leaks are common on these boilers. I am waiting on them now to resolve the warranty issue. They had a great reputation back when, but I would not touch one again.
