Aire-Flo AF90MPE Furnace Overview

Aire-Flo once promoted its now-discontinued AF90MPE gas furnace series as a great value in the coldest of climates, with an AFUE of up to 92.1 percent. This furnace can be installed in upflow/horizontal-left or counterflow/horizontal-right configurations. The unit has a 3-speed blower motor.

For added durability, the heat exchanger has Crimp-Tite seams, while the cabinet is made corrosion-resistant by its heavy-gauge, pre-painted coating. The whisper-quiet burners and Honeywell slow-opening Smart Valves are designed for quiet operation. Furthermore, the Honeywell “Smart Valve” system has LED diagnostics that make troubleshooting simple.

For safety, a 5-amp fused low voltage circuit protector helps earn this gas furnace ANSI and CSA certifications. Connections for an electronic air cleaner, humidifier and continuous fan add-ons are standard, and all Aire-Flo gas furnaces can use a common LP kit.

Aire-Flo Furnace Reviews

"Gets a Bad Rap"

5.0 rating
Very Satisfied

I’ve had my Aire-Flo 90% for 6 years now without issue. I did have to clean the flame sensor once but that’s basic up keep that needs to be done. Reading the reviews on here sounds like most of the problems are fly-by-night outfits who don’t stand by their work. Moving to a new home and will have the contractor install a new Aire-Flo when I get settled. I’m more than happy with my unit.

For example, a homeowner experiencing trouble with his AF90MPE furnace writes on en.allexperts.com that his furnace runs only for a short time before beginning to fail. The homeowner posts a diagnostic code in which the LED repeatedly blinks three and then six times. An online technician suggests that the problem is with the pressure switch being in the wrong position. The homeowner also discovered that ice was blocking the intake pipe. Removing the blockage caused the furnace to resume normal functioning and the LED code to return to normal.

Where is the flame sensor on an Aire Flo furnace? The furnace doesn’t run long or heat well.

That definitely sounds like it could be a problem with the flame sensor. The flame sensor will be close to the burner, with the rod located in the flame. If it needs to be cleaned, you can use steel wool or a fine sandpaper.
