Amana AMV8 Furnace Overview

The Amana AMV8 is a discontinued two-stage, variable-speed gas furnace with an efficiency of 80% AFUE. The AMV8 was designed for an upflow or horizontal installation. A low-speed fan provided increased efficiency and quiet operation. The unit featured a patented MillionAir stainless steel tubular heat exchanger, a two stage gas valve and a SureStart hot surface ignitor. The heavy-gauge steel cabinet with baked enamel finish was fully insulated to provide low sound levels. The AMV8 featured a control board with self-diagnostics to help monitor furnace operation and functions.

Amana Furnace Reviews

"Amana furnaces are horrible"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

This was our first Amana furnace, and it will be our last Amana brand furnace. It failed on December 9, 2014, about 5 years after purchase and with half the 10 year warranty left on it. We have been without heat for 2 weeks during a cold spell in Palm Springs, California, and Amana has thus far failed to fix the blower even though it is under warranty. They have shown no concern at all for the two disabled adults living here with HIV/AIDS, and both are now sick and very uncomfortable. The furnace has always been extremely loud, and there is no way to oil these Amana furnaces, insuring that they fail, usually within 5 years or so, according to our AC/Heater contractor. In fact, Amana removed the oil port from the design years ago specifically to sell more heaters due to failures, according to our contractor. Everyone should avoid Amana unless they want to experience a lot of problems, lots of noise, and early failures of the blower motor. It’s the worst brand that you can purchase, in our opinion, due to our experience with Amana brand.

Second failure. This time the fan would not stop running (even with the thermostat removed). First failure was the motherboard. Not too sure if I will ever consider another Amana purchase. Only 18 Months since installation.

"VERY Dissatisfied"

5 1/2 years old, Blower motor failed. I spent $ 1100.00 to repair. 5 months out of warranty zero assistance from manufacturer. Integrated components on blower motor only sold as complete unit. I have replaced entire unit with different manufacturer that has replacement parts at reasonable cost. Amana could care less about customer service. Even service technician dismayed at cost and lack of serviceable components.

Other AMV8 Reviews

There are comparisons between the AMV8 and comparable models on both gardenweb.com and hvac-talk.com. On both sites, most professionals and consumers seemed to agree that the installation of the furnace is more important than the brand or model of similar units. Most writers on the forums appear to regard the AMV8 as an average furnace.

AMV8 Warranty

Online product registration is required within 60 days of installation for maximum warranty coverage. The warranty for the Amana AMV8 furnace is comprised of the following:

  • Lifetime unit replacement limited warranty. If the heat exchanger fails for the original, registered owner, a new unit will be supplied for free
  • 10-year limited parts warranty

The optional Amana Asure extended service protection warranty provides extended parts and labor coverage.
