"Too much cold air"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

The furnace blows out drafty cold air and the room temperature fluctuation is very uncomfortable. They say there is a fan switch that moderates temperature, but can’t find it in the manual. Very frustrating.

"Just don’t buy this product."

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

I purchased this product about 6 years ago, and have had consistent problems with it “timing out”. I’ve had the igniter and/or sensor replaced numerous times to no avail. When I’ve contacted the company, I’m told I am out of luck because the original installer has retired. Please don’t buy this product

"Poor installs cause furnace issues."

5.0 rating
Very Satisfied

I am a contractor and come across many poorly and incorrectly installed furnaces. The client thinks the furnace is the problem but it’s the installation that’s caused the furnace to work poorly and fail. From what I am reading here in all of the comments the contractors have been the issue, not the furnace. People get the cheapest company in to install the furnace and expect it to work properly. Cheap installs = problems every time. I have installed hundreds of American Standard furnaces as per the manufacturer’s instructions, sized properly for the home, and there has been only 1 that had a warranty issue which was the blower motor. Fixed for the client under warranty at no cost.

The furnace works perfectly and is reliable. We are saving over our old original furnaces, even with a base model. We’ve had no problems and these are solid units.

"Parts Overpriced and Poor Quality"

Dual-stage heater is not worth the money. Your labor and parts are quite expensive. Control board went out after only two years. This board will cost one in excess of 300.00. If this goes out after my warranty, I will be going back to Lennox. My Lennox lasted fifteen years before I had to replace it. I put Trane and American Standard in the same class as Goodman/Janitrol.

Other Freedom 80 Reviews

The Freedom 80 appears to be well received by reviewers across the web. Review sites such as webhvac.com state this is a solid, basic model that will provide dependable performance. Gasfurnaceguide.com also mentions that this model is a good option for homeowners looking for a budget-friendly solution to efficient heating in a moderate climate.

While most posters recommend this model in online reviews, contractors on gardenweb.com do not advise selecting this unit for use in colder weather climates. Instead, they direct homeowners to a higher efficiency unit for maximum savings.

In addition, homeowner forums such as doityourself.com report several system failures. Bad parts, hard to read error codes and having the system improperly the home, or not heating at all, are among the issues stated.

Questions and Answers

Question:

Why is a red light blinking on my American Standard Freedom 80 furnace?

Answer:

If you are getting a steady blinking light, it means the furnace is functioning properly. If it blinks in a series of flashes and pauses, this is an error code indicating

that something is wrong. A list of error codes and their meanings should be located on the inside front panel of your unit.

To find the serial number on the American Standard Freedom 80 try looking either on the sides of the interior sheet metal housing or on the shelf below the burners.
