Very disappointed in this piece of junk. Multiple services call every winter to keep in working. The unit is 8 years old and the repair bills and money pit is amazing.

"Furnace for our family house"

We have owned this furnace for a few years now. Unfortunately our old furnace, which we had since we originally built our house, was starting to fail so we had to find something new quickly. So far this has been great! It works very well for all rooms in the house and has been relatively maintenance free (besides checkups). The only thing I dislike about it is that it is rather big (these things normally are though). The furnace has multiple parts because we have each part covering a different area of the house (very large house). It is quiet, energy efficient, and seems to be of great quality. I would definitely buy the same one again or recommend it so someone in the market for a new furnace. These types of purchases give me anxiety because they cost so much money and the decision is so important but I am very happy with how it has worked out so far.

In 2008 of Aug. I bought a new Carrier 58 mvc high efficiency 98% furnace, to save money and have reliability. In Jan. 2013 this highly recommended furnace stopped, and we woke to a very cold house. I phoned furnace repair person he told me to reset the furnace and get him to come out to clean the furnace. After $ 200 in labor, replacing the electronic board, inducer fan, ($1300) in warranty parts, which was Carrier support department idea of a fix. $220 for his vacuum truck try to suck out the primary, and secondary heat exchangers, this was his idea and Carrier wanted more proof that the heat exchangers were the problem. Now a month has passed, the decision was made to replace the two heat exchangers. no parts in Vancouver, had to wait. After a week or so we got the parts and he came right away. This job to replace the heat exchangers is a big job for someone who has never done it and it could take up to 8 hours, more $$$$. Carrier only pays for 4 hours.Exchangers installed westarted the furnace and our home was warm again, and my wife was happy. I was not, I think that Carrier should have paid all the labour and parts as they sold a defective furnace in the beginning, they knew that it was broken when they shipped here from the U. S. Carrier customer service is a laugh, very polite and curteous, its like talking to a wall. No words, we are sorry very for your hardship came out of their lips. There is a helpful hint for any of you out there with this type of furnace, raise the furnace on the opposit side of the water drain at least 3/8 inch so water doesn’t stay in the secondary heat exchanger I have a personal goal in life NOW to tell my story to anyone who will listen, and hope when it comes time to buy CARRIER products, they don’t. Thank You Ken

Many of the negative reviews posted are caused buy lack of basic maintenance, such as blocked condensate trap. Many of the posts sound like lack of knowledge by the service tech and or customer. I have been installing and maintaining Carrier furnaces for 18 years, a quality contractor is key. I have installed many other brands as well, but Carrier seems to have the edge on everyone. Question

What is the cost of a replacement furnace ECM module?

Answer

On 2016-04-21 Gary wrote:

This can be a very expensive repair, often in excess of $1000. This price can depend on if only the module, needs to be replaced, or if the problem is with the entire motor. A module replacement is usually a couple hundred dollars. But if it’s the motor, again, it could be over $1000.

A licensed heating professional will be able to tell you what needs to be replaced and give you an accurate price.
