Heil DLX 90 Furnace Overview

The Heil DLX furnace is a gas model that achieves an AFUE rating of 92 percent and is touted for its quiet performance. Although the unit has not been manufactured by Heil since about 2009, it is still available from some dealers.

The DLX 90 furnace features a multi-speed blower, and a specially-designed heat exchanger that promotes the efficient distribution of heat. A solid door and thermally insulated cabinet are some of the features that given this unit its “QuietComfort” name.

Heil Furnace Reviews

"2 weeks past warranty – $700 repair"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

We purchased a Heil to replace a 25-year-old Carrier that worked fine until the day it died. Our professional installer recommended Heil as a replacement. The new Heil has always been noisy (service called and he said everything was “great”) and last night the noise became a squeal we could hear outside the house. The installer service call $90. The estimate is $400 for the part but it is not in stock and the installation is $300 “if that’s all we find”. Being a Friday, we have to wait the weekend without heat in upstate NY in January. Our parts warranty is 32 days expired. Tempted to rip out this sub-par furnace rather than invest additional money in a crucial piece of our household while continuing to live without faith in its reliability.

"My experience"

Had a Heil furnace and heat pump installed during new construction in January, 2009. The motor that powers the blower to the exhaust spent fuel, has bearings that squeal, and the heat exchanger is bad.

"Happy so far"

Very Satisfied

We just purchased a furnace around Thanksgiving. We are very happy for the energy savings and quietness of this new heater. We chose a local heating guy recommended by our neighbor and have been pleased with the whole experience.

Very Happy with my Heil 95% Furnace, had no problems with it, very quiet, and worth every penny. My energy savings on my 95% is putting money back in my pocket.

"Love our furnace"

1.0 rating

We have a new heil furnace and love it. I cannot belive how quiet it is. We had a Lennox and it was so loud and broke down every winter. We have had our new furnace for 5 years and not once has it broke down.

Other DLX 90 Reviews

One potential furnace buyer writes in to the hvac-talk.com forum to ask about the quietness and reliability of Heil’s DLX 90 furnace. Several of the responders recommend a Ruud model with a similar rating. Other posters note that a variable speed model, which the DLX 90 is not, is worth the extra money since they are more likely to provide quiet performance than standard blowers.

A homeowner posting on gardenweb.com asks for input on a quote he received for a Heil furnace for his home. An expert on the site first points out that although Heil falls under the same parent company as Carrier, the two companies are not related in terms of quality and production. That same expert advises focusing on sizing, rather than brand, as the foremost consideration for installing a new furnace.

A consumer asks on doityourself.com about whether a Heil gas furnace is a good buy compared to other brands. The HVAC contractors on the forum give the Heil brand favorable reviews, and mention that the buyer should consider the 90-percent efficiency models. The experts also recommend asking the installer for a load calculation to make sure the unit is sized properly for the home.
