Corporate History

Johnson’s beginnings trace back to 1883, when Warren S. Johnson received a patent for the first electric room thermostat. A group of investors in Milwaukee would back Johnson’s formation of the Johnson Electric Service Co. in 1885 to make and install automatic building temperature regulation systems. The company was renamed the Johnson Service Company in 1902 and in 1974 took on its current name, Johnson Controls. Johnson Controls purchased York International in 2005, doubling its Building  division.

Today, the residential heating and air conditioning brands, falling under the Unitary Products Group within Johnson Controls, include YORKColeman HVACLuxaireChampionGuardianFraser-Johnston and Evcon.

Product Lines

York’s lineup of residential gas furnaces is divided into three series – AffinityLX and Latitude. The LX series of high-efficiency furnaces includes the TM9V and the TM9E, which are both Energy Star rated. The York Affinity YP9C furnace has an efficiency of up to 98% AFUE and has earned the Energy Star Most Efficient 2014 label.

HVAC parts include actuators, dampers, valves, sensors, thermostats, heating products, variable speed drives, and personal heating and cooling tools. Other products include air- and water-cooled chillers, central air-handling equipment and condensing units as well as a variety of variable air volume, or VAV, systems.

"Single stage p s c residential gas furnace"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

Stupid inhale pipe outside clogs with ice and the furnace quits working until we go out with a hair dryer and thaw it out! Of course that only happens on the coldest nights of the year or when it snows! Not made for a cold climate!

"Streamlined quiet efficient heating system"

5.0 rating
Very Satisfied

This heating system was a new install, and is a very compact. Streamlined unit, certainly taking up less space than previous 25+ year old furnace. It is quiet and having a two stage circulation method, really makes it hard to hear it is even running. It is said the unit will burn efficiently and we are really looking forward to realizing this. It appears that controls and operations are quite consumer friendly. It is very early in our relationship with the new furnace and we certainly look forward to the future. The warranty is super, and our faith in the contractor involved makes our next ten years plus very much more contented.

"Great product but terrible shipping standards"

3.0 rating

I love the furnace that I bought from Home Depot. The only problem I had was the the first furnace I ordered arrived with a huge dent in the lower side of it. It was obvious that the fork lift operator was not taking his time in handling the furnace carefully. When I saw the dent I had to return it and order another furnace (no. 2). When the second furnace arrived I checked the side and notice a dent in the same place, but not as bad as the first furnace. It had a dent in the same exact place. I agreed to keep the second furnace after they(Home Depot) reduced the price a little and gave me 5% off after it was installed. It was obvious they had a shipping problem that needed correcting.

"Effective, easy to use, no fuss!"

5.0 rating
Very Satisfied

This heater/ furnace is great because it is no fuss, easy to use, reliable and boy! It blows nice, warm air. It heats up quick, so we don't feel like we need to leave it on when we leave the house for a couple of hours in fear it will take too long to heat back up – because our house is toasty again in minutes after turning it on/up! Such a nice change from our old rickety heater – we actually save a lot of money on our heating bills because this one is so effective!

"Johnson Controls HVAC"

5.0 rating
Very Satisfied

Our HVAC contractor recommended this product. He has installed and serviced this brand and it is very efficient and a reliable brand. It was a direct replacement of the original equipment and without any modifications. The evaporator coils were completely enclosed in the case and had better filter access than the original equipment.
