"Had good luck"

I wish people would add the model numbers when they write a review. I have had a Payne 80% for the last 13 years. I have had no problems with it. It was a scratch and dent model. The person who installed it did a great job. I have only changed the filters on it, yearly. From reading most of the reviews, it seems that having a good installer is the most important part.

We’ve had our furnace for over 10 years and nothing has been required but simple annual maintenance. It runs strong and is super reliable. No problems!

"Literally A Payne"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

We bought this unit in 2000, after a 1.5 yrs had to replace the ignitor. Since then the ignitor has been replaced 5 times total, the blower has been replaced and now another motor is gone costing over $600…don’t think we are going to fix it…time to scrap it and get a different unit. Will it be a Payne, heck no it’s literally a pain.

Other PG8UAA Reviews

Reviews about this particular furnace are mixed: some reviewers love the furnace, while others find it to be a continuing source of frustration. The most common problem is a code 33 error on the LED diagnostic board. Another error commonly reported is code 31, which occurs when the pressure switch is not closed. When a homeowner writes in to allexperts.com about this issue, a contractor explains that this is attributable to a bad switch, control board or inducer fan. The experts advise contacting a professional determine the exact cause in this case.

Code 14 also is troublesome for homeowners. One individual posts about this error on diychatroom.com, to learn that cleaning the flame sensor is all that's required to address this issue.

Question and Answer

Question:

What does an error code 31 mean?

Answer:

Error code 31 refers to a pressure switch open problem. This could be caused by a number of things, including a faulty switch, a plugged vacuum tube, and a problem with the control board. This sort of problem probably requires a licensed heating contractor.
