"Not even a year old"

Very Unsatisfied

We have only had this unit for about a year. The technician finally pinpointed the problem yesterday and is going to order the kit to fix it. We have learned that RUUD has been aware of this particular issue with the compressors for a long time.

"Ruud U97V modulating ultra series"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

I am a Heating contractor. I chose the modulating because I love toys and also love my comfort and love my money. Www.comfortenvironment.com. My preferred Furnace is Ruud since I switched over in 2004. Reason being reliability and I never go back for a repair. Homeowners should need to know the installation of the furnace is extremely important. As well as don’t get a furnace installed on the lowest prices contractor most likely they will find a way to save on installation cost. I only recommend Ruud and as competition Lennox. The rest I don’t like the call backs after a proper installed Furnace. Best of luck and skill to everyone.

Not one problem in the 15 years we’ve owned this Ruud Achiever 90. Half if not more of those unsatisfied have more to do with installation failure than the unit.

Wanna say a big thank you to Rheem! I have a Rheem CNRHE 50 high efficient condensing water heater, and of course my Ruud/Rheem furnace. These guys now how to build gas appliances. Never a problem, always there doing their jobs. Frankly, I agree with all the bad reviews or clearly poor installation issues. A furnace replacement is not a plug and play situation and I would be offended if an installer would try that on me. My unit was sized properly, some ducting was resized and my return air ducts were increased considerably to make it right. My water heater needed a lot of consideration for a proper install. Yes, these things cost more to have done, but it is important, and yes, you as a consumer that is looking for cheap cause your own problems. Overall, a Rheem / Ruud customer for life here and a big shout out to my installers that take their jobs seriously!

Other Achiever 90 Plus Reviews

Hvac-talk.com revealed a post from an owner whose flame would die out immediately. Another homeowner wrote that he had corrected a similar problem by replacing a drainage tube, which had become obstructed.

Another Ruud Achiever 90 Plus furnace owner writes to the experts at justanswer.com about the blower running, but no heat coming out of the vents. The contractor was able to discern after some discussion that the problem was probably being caused by condensation in a drainage tube once again. The expert stated this was a problem he rarely saw in many years of working on furnaces.

A homeowner writes on doityourself.com about problems with the Achiever 90 Plus not staying lit. A solution is not reached on the forum, but some responders feel the LP gas tank may need to be filled to increase the pressure.

A recent post on hvac-talk.com also mentions the issue of the burner going out. The consumer reports that the venting outside was at an incorrect angle and wind was entering the system and causing the problem.

Question and Answer

Question:

What does a green flashing light mean?

Answer:

This flashing light is indicating an error code based on the number of flashes. In your owner’s manual or on the inside of the cover panel or perhaps on the furnace itself there should be a description of how to read the code and what each code means.

Question:

The furnace wouldn’t kick on last night. The ok light flashes twice. It doesn’t try to purge or ignite. Fan works.

Answer:

Many times the air filter can be clogged and prevent airflow. If after replacing your filter your furnace continues to have issues you should hire a licensed contractor to look at the unit.

Question

Blinking green light, alarm states the pressure switch is open and to check it.

See page 2 of the manual for the location for the pressure switch on your Ruud Achiever 90 Plus. There is a picture which shows it in the middle of the unit.

Question

Where is the limit switch on the Achiever 90 Plus?

Owned 15 yrs but hardly used because we burned wood only backup and absence times. we started it this fall and began this. turn thermostat up and fan wants to start before it ignites. cleaned board and ckd what could. no service manual given when installed. think it may be limit switch.

Page two of the user manual identifies all the major interior parts. When it comes to working on a furnace I strongly recommend hiring a licensed contractor (due to the potential harm you can cause). Licensed contractors spend years in school and doing on the job training. So if you’re unsure of your abilities, contacting a contractor is always a safe bet!
