"Awesome unit and warranty"

5.0 rating
Very Satisfied

I had a company convince me that a heat pump is only as good as the company installing it. This Amana is very well installed, looks great with the two-time paint job, and its so quiet I thought that it wasn't even running. The unit runs and operates just as the contractor said that it would.

I bought this unit to replace an older Trane with a bad compressor. It's the worst decision I have ever made. This unit has failed at least once every summer since installed in 2011. The first was a burned out circulator fan motor. I was told the problem was due to a surge after a power failure, however we've had more than a dozen since then with no problems. The other problems have always come from a leak resulting in total loss of coolant which shuts the system down. Over the past five years my wife and I have spent more than two months total without the use of the heat pump. We live in coastal North Carolina where the typical summer weather is in the nineties. The only saving grace here is the ten-year parts and labor warranty meaning that the company has had to pay for my inconvenience. I had a good price on this, but apparently I would have done better by spending more. I recently sent the CEO of the company that manufactures Amana a letter stating that I would never buy another Goodman product and I won't. Hopefully, someone will be able to learn from my mistake and do better.

"Problems"

I'm Howard, I inherited an Amana heat pump. It cooled quite well but the condenser shut down while heating. The heat pump's TXV part was replaced and now the heat is great. I've read all the other comments and realized that most of the problems were the contractors you hired. I have been installing Goodman for 16 years. I service all systems. Goodman has the least problems.

"16 seer Heat Pump"

Lots of problems that took more than three months to clear up. The control board kept locking out the unit. This went on day after day. We went through grounding rods (system error codes indicated power problems) they replaced the control board, no change. Every time it rained or the humidity was high it locked up. Seemed like every time you looked at our driveway there was a heating and air truck parked there. After about two and half months of this crap I called the supervisor at the hvac company and told him to fix it or remove it. When came out I gave him a demo of the problem. We got the unit running, then I took a garden hose and sprayed it with and mist (like rain). Two minutes later it went out. And finally the supervisor took the unit apart. He found the problem, some jackass cable tied some wires to a hot copper pipe. The insulation melted and when it got wet enough it shorted out. It was rewired and tied off to the frame. I don't think anyone at the assembly plant would have made an error, it has to have been in the design. Whoever did this must be an idiot!! You don't tie wire to anything hot or cold. You tie them off somewhere neutral.

"Amana Heat Pump – I Cannot Recommend"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

Purchased the top of the line Amana heat-A/C system in August 2011. When the system is working, it does an excellent job of cooling my home in Florida. However, my pleasure was short lived in June of 2012. The ECM motor failed, labor cost $490.00. In August of 2012, the control board failed, labor cost $210.00. In November of 2013, the ECM motor failed again, labor cost $490.00. My air conditioning system is 2 years and 3 months old and has broken down 3 times, twice in the heat of the summer and I had to wait for parts. All parts were covered under the manufacturer's warranty but based on the repair history, I cannot recommend this product.

There are very few online comments about problems with the Amana ASZC16. Reviews on several online forums mention that Amana is actually a Goodman product, which in the opinion of the reviewers is not a good thing. Comparisons on gardenweb.com between the ASZC16 and comparable models from Trane, Rheem and Carrier seem divided quite evenly among consumers, with the Amana warranty getting a lot of positive comments.
