Goodman GSH13 Heat Pump Overview

The GSH13 heat pump is a basic model, with efficiency ratings of 13 SEER and 7.7 HSPF (for cooling and heating, respectively). Different versions of this model have cooling capacities of between 1.5 and 5 tons – that is, between 17,600 BTU/h and 55,500 BTH/h. Heating capacity ranges from 16,800 to 55,500 BTU/h. Noise levels fall between 71 and 77 dB. At this time, the GSH13 seems to be the lowest-rated and least expensive of the heat pumps manufactured by Goodman.

The GSH13 uses R-22 coolant. This is an older kind of coolant, more commonly known by the brand name Freon, that can damage the ozone layer.

"Poor quality and trouble customer service"

Our Goodman heat pump is only 5 years and the compressor went out only two weeks after the five year warranty expired. After speaking to a very rude customer service agent we finally got a manager to return our call. We understand expired warranty means expired but we asked the question, "Give us a reason to buy another Goodman"? The manager did not have an answer.

"POS!! Goodman heatpumps"

Wish I knew a few years ago what I know about Goodman heat pumps now! Pay a lot of money for a new HVAC system— heat coils burned out, leaking evaporator coils, leaking coil in outside unit. Sure, parts are under warranty, but labor is not! I'm really screwed because I installed this Goodman junk in several houses that I own and every dam one of them have the same problems! One system didn't even make it to 4 years!

"Very impressive for 8 years now"

Has worked like a dream for 8 years now. Had to replace a run cap for $15 in year four, no big deal, which can be expected. Cools and heats strong. Bills have never been lower. No leaks as I use sight glasses and can see charge. I am using a Honeywell electronic air filter with this R22 system.

"Failed exactly 6 months after installation"

I purchased my new home in November of 2009. Our home has two Goodman HVAC units (model GSH130361BB). We noticed that our Goodman HVAC downstairs unit blows only cold air inside when the unit is set to heat setting on December 1, 2015. We called an HVAC technician to look into the unit. The cause of it is that "Almost all of the 12 lb refrigerant has leaked due to a major leak in the indoor evaporation coil". These were supposed to last longer and it failed prematurely. It's exactly 6 years from the date when this unit was installed in my new home. So I am left spending $2900 to replace this defective coil

Less than 7 years old. Already replaced cool for $2600, it loses Freon, and now may need a new heater kit! Do not purchase!

The GSH13 comes with a 5-year limited parts warranty. The warranty only applies in the location where the unit is first installed. It entitles the holder to a replacement for broken parts, but not labor for installing the replacement. The owner must also return the defective component to Goodman. The warranty becomes invalid in the case of disasters (such as floods and fires) and faulty repairs. Goodman will not replace parts for units installed outside of the United States or Canada. Be sure to register your air conditioner with Goodman to claim the standard warranty.
