HAIER Heat Pump Overview

Haier America, headquartered in New York, offers heating and cooling units for both residential and commercial applications. The company offers four heat pumps that utilize R410A environmentally-friendly refrigerant, and three models that use R22 refrigerant, or Freon. These Freon cooled units are for replacement purposes only; customers who are buying a completely new system should look at units that use R410A, as the Environmental Protection agency is phasing out use of R22.

Haier Packaged Unit Heat Pumps

Haier packaged unit heat pumps are available in four models, all of which use R410A. The models in this series all achieve a SEER rating of 14 and an HSPF of 8.0. The four models vary in their BTU capacity, ranging from 24,000 to 60,000. Each model features a scroll compressor. The airflow on each heat pump can be converted to either horizontal or downflow.

Haier Dry Charged R22 Outdoor Units

Haier offers, for replacement purposes, three heat pumps that use R22 refrigerant. These models are available in BTU capacities of 24,000, 30,000 and 60,000. This series comes with a reciprocating compressor. These heat pumps can achieve a SEER rating of 13 and an HSPF of 7.8. The fan motor is completely protected by the unit's construction.

Care and Maintenance of Haier Heat Pumps

Most HVAC companies recommend a yearly maintenance check-up to make sure your unit is functioning at top capacity. Haier notes that its heat pumps undergo tests before shipment to check for leakage. The base pan has drainage holes, so water can drain away and thereby prevent unit rusting. Access panels on the Haier R22 heat pumps are easily removed for cleaning and service calls. The R410A models have service ports that can be accessed without removing any panels.

The Haier R22 dry charged heat pumps carry a five-year limited compressor warranty. The R410A heat pumps offer a 10-year limited compressor warranty, as well as a 10-year limited parts warranty. Customers can register their heat pumps online at the Haier website.

"Better than expected"

Got a good deal on this. Was a little skeptical. I get heat at -30. Plus I got the rebate. Less on the hydro bill. Really quiet. I'd recommend Haier to anyone. I hope to put another one in the upper floor. It will be Haier for sure.

Better than I expected. It still throws good heat at -20 C. Cools 2 floors of my house. Great value. It has one small issue and they called me right back. I would highly recommend Haier.

"Instructions Manual"

Somewhat Unsatisfied

Using the unit 3 first years, unit not used the last 2 years. Instructions manual has been lost. Impossible to set hours on zapper. Works on cold and heat mode, what are other modes for? Possible to get an instructions manual in french? If not available, I will have English one translated. Thx

"Another Review 2 Years Later Still More Probs"

I explained in 2011 that we had gone through three fans. The installer, a professional replaced them at no cost. In the fall of 2012 the 4th fan failed and Tom (the installer) brought a new fan which was not the Haier fan. He bought U.S. made fans and adapted them to the Haier fan mount. Today the temperature was up to 100'F and the Haier failed again, this time the fan was working great but the compressor was not pumping so the house went up to 85'F by 3PM. Called Tom, he lives nearby, and he came within 15 minutes. Replaced the Chinese capacitor with a Mexican made capacitor plus a U.S. made stare cap. Tom told me installing Haiers was the biggest mistake he's ever made. Further, he said Haier has never supplied him with warranty spares (I.E. he has been paying for the parts himself buying them from local distributors). Do not buy a Haier, they are junk. In the fall I will be replacing this piece of crap even though it is only 4 years old. My last heat pump, a Carrier, lasted nearly 25 years.
