Payne Heat Pump Reviews

"6 years and no problems"

Very Satisfied

I replaced one of 2 rooftop Carrier heat pumps in 2008 with a Payne 3T, 13 SEER unit (PH3P model). I see from this site that the line was discontinued; I probably would have balked at that, had I known. Doing my research again (have to replace the other one, over 20 years old), I realize folks tend to be on here when they have problems, not when all is well. So I have to say we have had zero issues with this unit, and it's on a rooftop in the Phoenix, Arizona sweltering summer heat. We change the filters – that's it. I hoped to get the Carrier technology/components at an economical price; that has been our experience.

I have been installing Payne for the last 3 years. I have never had any call back or complaints front any of my customers. Unfortunately there are many unqualified techs out there. Payne is a good product and affordable. Unqualified techs give this great product a bad reputation.

Other PH3P Reviews

This builder-grade heat pump has received mixed reviews across the web. Homeowners on forums such as gardenweb.com like the low price point of the PH3P, but are concerned it may not give the same long-lasting performance as higher-grade units. Those who have had the unit state it’s obviously not a high-end heat pump, but has served them well for years and should continue to do so with proper care.

Contractors also see Payne as a “budget brand” but note the units are built with quality components. Posters on gardenweb.com recommend this product to consumers searching for a less expensive unit lacking the bells and whistles. They mention the system should provide solid performance as long as it is installed correctly and maintained regularly.
