Trane Heat Pump Reviews

"Bad unit"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

Original Trane purchased in the 1980's was very good. Current unit purchased in 2011 has been nothing but trouble. Installing dealer has been unable to solve its problems. It's amazing how far down they have fallen in quality over the years. I will never buy another Trane.

"New Unit Failed in Under 30 Days"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

We just purchased this Trane heat pump less than 30 days ago and, according to the repair technician, the ac fan fell off. It appears the quality control for this product is not the best. We will not waste any more money on Trane products.

When the temperature drops to freezing, this unit puts out the worst scent. I had the repairman here to check it out and he said it's called "dirty sock syndrome" because they can't find the cause. Our old unit never smelled like this. We paid a lot of money for this heat pump and I will never recommend a Trane to anyone. This scent will even wake me up at night; it's that strong!

There are several similar posts, with homeowners trying to chose between the XL16c and XL14c. A homeowner on doityourself.com who had an XL14c installed and complained that it wasn't heating well was advised that it may be an installation error and that he should have a Manual J load calculation done to determine if it is adequately sized.
