Trane XV20i Heat Pump Overview

The Trane XV20i is a variable speed heat pump with an efficiency of up to 20.00 SEER and 10.00 HSPF. It features ComfortLink II communicating capability, allowing the system components to communicate for optimal performance and efficiency. The unit has a Climatuff variable speed compressor which maintains consistent speeds to avoid temperature swings, and a compressor sound insulator provides reduced operating sound levels. An all-aluminum spine fin coil improves heat transfer while resisting corrosion, and an integrated fan system with a blade-down design improves performance while reducing sound levels. The unit is protected by full-sided galvanized steel louvered panels with a powder paint finish and a WeatherGuard II top, and its DuraTuff basepan is designed to resist corrosion.

"14,000 dollar mistake"

Biggest piece of shit on the planet. The 10 yr old HVAC I had sucked the electricity like water over Niagara falls, but it never quit. I've had this abortion for 3 weeks in which total down time is 1 week, 3 service calls. Bunch of absolute garbage. 14,000 dollars down the damn drain

Had my Trane XV20i installed almost 2 years ago no problems except a software update glitch. My electricity bill has been reduced by 30% and the ability to control it via my cellphone is great. You must make sure that the installer is top notch and get a maintenance plan. I Would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

"Trane crap"

Had new system installer summer 2014 Xv20i and tam8. It took two weeks to make it work. In the first year the a coil leaked and compressor fried. Next year stopped again the a/c installer put more parts on it. Year two stopped again more parts. Now year three the pos stopped!!! Three weeks and counting more parts does not work! The a/c tech has been on the phone to the Trane tech over and over, Trane now will not call him back! It is time for a class action suit! P.S. the only parts not changed are the condensor coil and reversing valve. If all fails Trane may get this through the window!

"Worst decision in my 65 years"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

I had a Trane XV20i heat pump, Tam 8c air handler and xl950 Thermostat installed spring of 2014. It's never run more than 6 months without a service call. Problem after problem mostly during cold months. To add to my problems, my installing dealer went out of business about 18 months into this ordeal. So I had to start paying for labor. Called Trane Customer Dis-Service asking whom they would recommend for repairs. They gave me a list of 4 Comfort Specialist of which none serviced my area. Called a local Trane dealer asking for help. He said I don't work on those units, insinuating they're a piece of crap. He referred me to another high end Trane dealer. I called them and they guaranteed me they could straighten out my unit. That was April 2016. Now 6 months later, 4 service calls and $1,000 out of my pocket, the unit is down again. I was told by a tech from my current company that Trane don't care. He said you can threaten to sue them, they just don't care. All they care about is moving units out the door. This purchase was one of the worst decisions of my 65 years on this earth. There should be a class action lawsuit against these shysters! Constant headaches and heartaches.

After 10 months, the unit is down and out in 96 degree heat. I bought 2 units in September of 2015…now had to call twice for service on one of the units. Guess I would say this unit has a 50% reliability rating in my book. Very expensive and service is difficult to get during the peak times (very hot or very cold weather). Cannot recommend this unit.

Other XV20i Reviews

Comments regarding the XV20i on HVAC forums seem to be mostly positive, with a post on hvac-talk.com saying that it is much quieter than a Carrier Greenspeed unit. In another post on the same site asking for opinions on the same units, though, the majority of members found the Greenspeed to be the better unit.
