Bryant Brand Overview

Bryant Manufacturer Overview

Bryant Heating and Cooling Systems manufactures residential central air conditioners, heat pumps, geothermal heat pumps, boilers and gas and oil furnaces. The company also manufactures a series of rooftop heating and cooling units and rooftop heat pumps for commercial use. Bryant also sells a line of furnace filters. Carrier, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (UTC), owns Bryant Heating and Cooling. Connecticut-based UTC trades on the NY stock exchange as UTX and had net sales of $59.8 billion in 2017.

Corporate History

Charles Bryant founded the Natural Gas Regulator Co. in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1904. The company began selling gas-fired boilers within the next four years, and dominated the U.S. market for gas boilers in the 1920s. In the 1930s, Dresser Industries acquired the Bryant Heater Co. In 1945, Dresser acquired Payne Furnace & Supply Co. and the Day & Night Water Heater Co. All three soon thereafter bought their way out of Dresser and formed Affiliated Gas Equipment Inc. (AGE). AGE was acquired by Carrier Corp. in 1955, which in turn became a subsidiary of UTC in 1979.

Product Lines

Bryant Heating and Cooling markets residential air conditioners, heat pumps, and gas and oil furnaces under the product names Evolution System, Preferred Series and Legacy Line. The Evolution 987M is Bryant’s premier 90 percent AFUE furnace, reaching an AFUE rating of up to 98.3. The company’s Evolution air conditioners and heat pumps are capable of reaching up to 20 SEER.

Contractor Certification

Bryant says that its Factory Authorized Dealers (FAD) represent the highest standards of all Bryant dealers. These dealers must pass stringent business requirements to be so recognized. To become a Bryant FAD, dealers must be certified by the North American Technician Excellence program, have a representative who attends at least two days of class at the Bryant Academy every two years and attend product training classes. These dealers sell only Bryant products, and must offer their customers a 100-percent satisfaction guarantee and issue “Customer Care”surveys.

According to Bryant, its FADs get more business than other dealers since the manufacturer endorses these companies’ workmanship and installation quality. The dealers also benefit from sales and marketing assistance. Consumers, in theory, benefit from working with dealers who adhere to the highest industry standards.

Warranty

Although details vary by unit, most registered products carry a 10-year parts limited warranty. Products must be registered, however, or this reverts to a 5-year warranty. Extended warranties are available on labor.
