Day and Night Brand Overview

Day and Night Manufacturer Overview

Day and Night brand products include split-system air conditioners and heat pumps, as well as furnaces. The company also manufactures packaged HVAC systems and fan coils. The International Comfort Products (ICP) markets Day and Night products for homes and commercial buildings.

As part of the Carrier Corp., ICP is a subsidiary of the conglomerate corporation United Technologies Corp. (UTC) and is headquartered in Lewisburg, Tenn. Hartford, Conn.-based UTC trades on the New York stock exchange as UTX, and in 2017 saw net sales of $59.8 billion. In 2013, UTC’s Climate, Controls & Security division, which includes Carrier and its subsidiaries, was combined with Otis to form UTC Building & Industrial Systems.

Corporate History

Day and Night began in 1909 as a California-based solar water heating company. In the 1930s, it began manufacturing space heaters and, over time, developed into residential and commercial heating and air conditioning products. In 1945, Dresser Industries acquired the Day & Night brand, along with several others. Four years later, Day & Night, Payne, and Bryant bought themselves out of Dresser and founded Affiliated Gas Equipment Inc. (AGE). In 1955, Carrier purchased AGE, then uniting those brands as the BDP Co. in 1974, although today it operates under Carrier’s ICP company. The Day and Night name was dropped from use in 1997, but brought back in 2009.
