Frigidaire Brand Overview

Frigidaire Manufacturer Overview

Frigidaire offers residential and commercial air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces and air handlers. Frigidaire is owned by Electrolux (a publicly owned Swedish company (NASDAQ:ELUX), while the company’s brand name is licensed by Nordyne. Frigidaire is headquartered in Augusta, Georgia. Electrolux had sales of approximately $13.5 billion in 2017.

Corporate History

The history of Frigidaire dates back to 1916 when the Guardian Frigerator Co. began manufacturing the first electric household refrigerator. General Motors purchased the company in 1918 and made it a subsidiary of Delco-Light in 1921. Later, it became known as the Frigidaire Division. Frigidaire made its first “air-cooled, window-type” air conditioner in 1938. In 1979, White Consolidated Industries acquired Frigidaire. AB Electrolux purchased WCI in 1986. Frigidaire is now owned by Electrolux and is licensed by Nordyne.

Product Lines

Frigidaire markets a line of residential and commercial room air conditioners. Among its offerings are window-mounted, built-in and portable air conditioners. The company also has a range of central air-conditioning systems ranging from 13 to 25.5 SEER.

In addition, the company offers heat pumps that range in efficiency from 13 SEER and 7.7 HSPF to 22 SEER and 10 HSPF. Furnaces reach as high as 97 percent AFUE, although base models are available in 80 percent AFUE. This range of efficiencies is intended to meet all consumer demands for low costs, ultra high efficiency and everything in between.

Frigidaire promotes a number of features designed to improve HVAC efficiency, such as the iQ Drive and iHybrid, which respectively regulate energy use at a low level unless needed and alternate between electric and gas use as the temperature changes. And Frigidaire now produces the EarthDirEX geothermal heat pump, which uses the earth’s energy to control the temperature in your home.

Frigidaire offers a 10-year parts and 10-year Comfort Quality Pledge on equipment manufactured after January 1, 2015. Under the Comfort Quality Pledge, if the heat exchanger or compressor fails within the first 10 years, Frigidaire will replace the product with a like product. Extended labor protection plans are available to cover labor costs associated with repairs.

Product registration is required for maximum warranty coverage.
