Kelvinator Brand Overview

Kelvinator Manufacturer Overview

The Kelvinator brand of air conditioners, furnaces and heat pumps is owned by A.B. Electrolux of Sweden, an appliance company, which reported revenue of approximately $13 billion in 2017. Kelvinator promotes its products as offering a blend of “top performance” and “great value”.

Corporate History

The Kelvinator brand dates back to 1926 when the company founders helped introduce electric refrigeration in the United States. The Kelvinator name was inspired by mathematician and physicist Baron Kelvin who came up with the concept of absolute zero. Air conditioners were added to the company’s inventory in 1936. In 1937 Kelvinator was acquired by the Nash Co., which sold the Kelvinator brand to White Consolidated Industries (WCI) in 1952. In 1986, WCI was itself acquired by A.B. Electrolux. Today Kelvinator products are manufactured under license by Nordyne.

Product Lines

Kelvinator says both its split-system and packaged air conditioners are built for durability. Split-systems are available with single-stage performance with either 13, 14 or 16 SEER efficiencies. Heat pumps are available as single- or two-stage. The higher performing two-stage unit reaches up to 16 SEER and up to 9.0 HSPF. Several 13 SEER packaged units also are available, including one designed for a small installation footprint. The company offers five gas furnaces to meet a range of efficiency needs. These vary from 80 to 95.1 percent AFUE for either single- or two-stage operation, all fixed-speed. Each unit features a galvanized steel exterior for extra durability.

Warranty

Kelvinator heating and cooling equipment produced after January 1, 2014, and registered online is covered by a 10-year warranty on parts. Heat exchangers have a limited lifespan warranty. Unregistered products receive 5 years of coverage. In addition, heat exchangers and compressors for most registered units (certain units are excluded) fall under the company’s 1-year quality pledge, which means if this part fails within the first year the entire unit will be replaced. Extended warranties also are available.
