York International Corp., headquartered in York, Pa., sells residential and light commercial furnaces, heat pumps and central air conditioners. The company markets furnaces under the brand names Coleman, Luxaire, and York. Johnson Controls Inc., York’s parent company, recorded approximately $30 billion in sales in 2017.
York was founded in 1874 in York, Pa. The company got its start making ice machines, and soon transitioned to selling early air-conditioning systems. Among its credits, the company notes that its products cooled the world’s first air-conditioned building.
Johnson Controls purchased the previously publicly-traded York in 2005. Today the company is a part of Johnson Controls’ Building Efficiency segment.
Today, York makes residential gas furnaces, split-system air-conditioners and heat pumps under the Affinity, LX and Latitude product lines. The company promotes its Affinity furnace as being energy-efficient, and a Consumer’s Best Buy as recognized by Consumer’s Digest.
In addition to complete heating and cooling units, Johnson Controls also manufactures HVAC replacement parts.
