Bought a 40 gal gas professional water heater November 3, 2017 at Home Depot (Rheem). As soon as it was hooked up it started leaking from the anode rod on top. Called the factory and they didn't think it was a problem, told us we needed to fix it ourselves by unbolting the rod and put plumbers putty on it. Lucky for us my husband is strong and had the knowledge and tools to do that. It fixed the problem

"Not enough hotwater"

Bought a rheem residential electric, we have very little hot water. They say you have 27 gal load capacity which should give you 26 min of shower time. I measured 9 gal. Everything checks out electrically so now they say it the plumbing. I have talked with two others that have the same problem. Rheem help are rude and offer little help. The product is a joke so its off to the dump. Note, they pretend they have never heard of this problem before yet you can read it on the net. Don't purchase one…i'll give it to you.

Avoid at all cost! Pilot light won't light after less than 6 months of installation! We have two babies in the house and they haven't had hot water for almost a week. Customer service said they sent out a technician, but of course nobody called or showed up.

"4 year life expectancy?"

3.0 rating
Neutral

4 years ago, I replaced my old water heater (I don't remember the brand) just simply because it was 21 years old – it never had a problem. Four days ago, the new 48-gallon Rheem water heater failed. The technician replaced the pilot assembly and the gas control unit, but the water heater would not maintain the pilot light. Rheem replaced the water heater (charging a $100 "upgrade fee" and of course $400 for the technician) – Rheem honored the warranty otherwise. So, do I expect a four year life cycle for the water heater (and a $500 expense every four years)?

Other Professional Reviews

Among the very few online reviews of the Rheem Professional is one on rigidforum.com from a homeowner who states that he just had the drain valve assembly on his electric tank fail for the third time with a crack where the nipple threads in. Based on the responses, it doesn't sound like this is a common problem with this unit, though.

Professional Warranty

The warranty for the Rheem Professional water heater is comprised of the following:

  • Up to 12-year tank/heat exchanger warranty
  • Up to 12-year parts warranty
