Corporate History

England’s Stove Works was established in 1976 by Bob and Ron England. They produced their first steel wood stoves in the 1970s. In the 1980s England’s Stove Works started to work on pellet stoves and — according to Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Association — was “one of the top (if not the top) manufacturer of pellet stoves in the United States”. Their factory includes 100,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space and manufacturing facilities with burn laboratory for testing new products.

England’s Stove Works launched their first website in 1999, and both the Englander and Summer’s Heat brands of stove were promoted on that site. Sister brand Timber Ridge was first promoted in 2002.

"Old Englander"

Had an Englander for 30+ years now. Great stove, best things about it; double doors open wide and accepts large logs. Heats great, burns through the night, easy to start, good draft. Bad stuff, fan is loud, has an 8' flue.

Only when we had installed the stove and tried our first fire, did we realize that it is necessary to start with the door open. This might not have been so bad if it had been for a few minutes. However, I sat with the fire for over 30 minutes and was not able to close the door or the fire would go out. Doing some searching online, I see that the other airwash systems have primary air draft from the front of the stove. The only intake for this is at the back, and the system opens and closes with a rod. There is no visible indication of how much it is open in any position. I called customer service and the person there basically blew off my concerns with the opinion that we needed to install outside air intake. I do not live in a manufactured home. I have used wood burning stoves for 40 years and there has never been a problem with our draft. On their web site, they brag "excellent customer service." I did not have that and it was not just "incompetent," it was dismissive and disrespectful. So disappointed to think about uninstalling and having to haul back for the return to store.

We used a Hearthstone in our former home it cost app 2100 we were satisfied with it but didn't know what we were missing until we bought the Englander for our newly built home. The Englander utilizes half the wood with the same results,it burns steadily no constant coddling of coals, our is 1200' to 1800' and it is keeping our downstairs cozy warm upstairs pretty comfortable too for a total of 1900 sq'. It holds the heat well but is not a blasting furnace running us from the room. Did I mention the Englander was 1/3 the price of the Hearthstone. We are immeasurably content and glad we made this purchase, the stove is American made too. A++

There is really nothing bad I can say about this wood stove. I am so happy we bought it. We were trying to save on our heat bill and this baby has done the job. First of all I am so pleased with the way it looks. It fits in with my decor perfectly. Secondly it heats up to 1200 square feet. That there is a good chunk of our home. It is also very durable. It has a cast iron door and a steel body. We are definitely going to have this a while. It also includes a blower which is another big plus. This was also very easy to install. My husband was able to do it by himself. Another important thing is that it is EPA certified. I feel so comfortable and safe having this in my home. It is just beautiful to look at. It has a beautiful door so you can see the fire. If you are planning on purchasing a wood stove I would look no further. We have had it for a year and haven't had any problems at all. We are 100 percent satisfied!

"My Englander 2,400 sq. ft. Wood-Burning Stove"

4.0 rating
Somewhat Satisfied

I have had my 2,400 sq. ft. Englander wood stove for over a year now. I bought it from a local Home Depot and installed it myself. One of the major selling points is that it is "EPA Certified." I'll have to admit, this was not a selling point for me. I still vividly remember the introduction of the catalytic converter and how the EPA forced this on us. It seemed to sap car's strength and forced us to use more expensive unleaded gas. There are no such negative consequences with this stove. To be honest, I can't tell it from any other wood stove I've used over the years. It draws fine and no smoke issues. It is good that it is less harmful to the environment. The real selling point should be the build quality and the blower. This stove is well made with thick gauge steel, sturdy hinges and other furniture. The blower really throws out the heat and, even on a really cold day, fills the distant regions in my home with heat. It would be nice to have some kind of humidifier attachment. I have no regrets and would recommend this stove to anyone who want a pretty large area heated.
